Dermot Carmody featured in “Hype” – Sunday Tribune Magazine Dec 7th 2008

Dermot Carmody was featured recently in The Sunday Tribune Magazine’s “Hype”. Here are a couple of quotes from the article:

“the idea for the show came about because my wife Bairbre has taught music to young children in groups for a number of years and was frustrated by the lack of up-to-date songs for them that weren’t trite or hackneyed and were lyrically relevant and fun. She suggested – strongly – to me that I write some funny songs for children and after she had asked me about a thousand times I sat down and did it, writing eight or nine songs over a couple of evenings.”

“children like rudeness, grown ups acting like children, judiciously applied slapstick, friendly rivalry and gentle conflict ending in a laugh onstage. Also they like to hear about things which are part of their experience – like for example spending time trapped in their car seats in Irish suburbia.”

“parents find the music is something they can play on car journeys to entertain their offspring without driving themselves insane. I think that’s because although the songs are aimed at children they aren’t musically or lyrically patronising and are therefore quite listenable no matter what your age.”
