“There’s A Snail In The Garden” CD
“There’s A Snail In The Garden” is a collection of nine new songs for children, written by Dermot & Bairbre Carmody and performed by Dermot. The album is available to download now on iTunes and there will be CD released in Ireland in the Autumn. There are selected short clips from some of the songs on this site.
There’s the title track wondering about the determined but not speedy progress of a snail on the back doorstep. There’s a protest song for the modern traffic-bound child (“Mammy, Are We Nearly There Yet?”), a song celebrating the essential nature of all those odd bits of body we all seem to have (“If you take away your knees/Then your legs won’t bend…”). “Tiny Tiny Things” highlights the plight of those even smaller than ourselves: “Did you ever see a Flee on MTV/Talking about their latest hit?”). This is an album addressing the real concerns of children (“Why is there fluff in my belly button?”) and making a noisy virtue out of dental Hygiene (“Brushy Brushy”). Somewhere in there you get to to move shake, shout and bang all at the same time just because (“Shake-a-Bang”) and in the middle of it all there’s even a song about… Middles!
