Music Monsterz
Music Monsterz is a series of workshops aimed at introducing young children to music. The course embraces concepts of the Montessori concepts of teaching alongside musical pedagogical methods suchs as Kodaly and Orff with modern material to produce an up-to-date programme.
Through the course children learn about music in a fun way to help develop their interest and improve their musical skills.
Why Music Monsterz?
The course offers a sound foundation for children who may wish to take up an instrument in the coming years and is an excellent preparation for any music covered in the primary school curriculum.

What we do in the classes
The Music Monsterz courses cover rhythms, dynamics, pitch, timbre and melody. An introduction to Solfa with hand signs is taught using pentatonic songs. Music Monsterz use various musical instruments from shakers through to drums in the workshops. Rhythm is introduced unconsciously to begin with and becomes more conscious with the named beats ta, ti-ti and taa. Memory is worked on teaching the children to think ahead musically and to recognise patterns.
An introduction bag of instruments is given to each child as part of the programme. Handouts and worksheets are available for the children to take home so that parents can get involved and so they know what is covered in each workshop.

The Teacher
Bairbre Carmody is an accomplished musician who has worked as a professional pianist for over 15 years. A music graduate of Trinity College Dublin, she also studied Music Drama at the DIT College of Music. Along with teaching Music Monsterz in Montessori schools, Bairbre worked for three years teaching music kindergarten at the Leeson Park School of Music, finishing to study a MA in Cultural Policy in UCD. Recently Bairbre along with Dermot Carmody, produced their first kids Cd: There’s a Snail in the Garden. Bairbre also has three little Music Monsterz of her own.
